John Who?

Author’s Notes (May contains Spoilers)

This story is the first of my horror short stories. It was partially inspired by the film the ‘Empty Man,’ which was one of the few horror movies I’ve watched. I loved how that film tapped into that Lovecraftian occult feeling, and I wanted to capture a very specific scene from the film.

This short story is centered around the idea of “what if you saw something unbelievable, and are now suffering a terrible loss, but no one believes you?”

It’s not the scariest concept, nor the easiest to execute on. Originally, the story was more ‘scattered’ the teller was supposed to be unreliable, and on the verge of a mental break from her trauma. I don’t know how much of that original essence stayed with the final version, but I’m happy with the result regardless.
