Author’s Notes (May contains Spoilers)
With this story I wanted to tap into something more personal. The bridge is real, and for the longest time it was basically pitch black somehow; like most children I was scared of the dark, and that bridge was terrifying.
I wanted to convey the beauty of the world, and really highlight a rapid devolving into obsession. I wanted the alien world to be like a visual siren song, something beautiful and alluring that ends violently. The problem is that there’s only the one character and we experience the story through their POV. The person enraptured in the siren song only hears the beautiful melody, they don’t see they’re drowning themselves until the moment it’s happening. This means that 90% of the story will be all sunshine and rainbows.
It’s at around this time that I wish I was interested in writing a simple ghost story; but no, I’ll keep writing these weird not-horror/horror stories that barely make sense * shrug *
